Creating custom AI action figures that actually move is now accessible to everyone, completely free of charge. This step-by-step guide will show you how to generate personalized action figures in blister packaging using ChatGPT and then animate them to wave or step out of their boxes using Cling AI – all without spending a dime.
The entire process takes just a few minutes and allows you to create viral-worthy content that’s been taking social media by storm.
In my video, I walk through the complete process from start to finish:
Getting Started with ChatGPT for AI Action Figure Creation
The first step is to head over to ChatGPT and make sure you have a free account. For this project, you’ll need to select the GPT-4o model, which has the image generation capabilities we need. This newer model provides the best results for our action figure images.
Once you’re in ChatGPT, you’ll need to use a specific prompt structure that I’ve refined through testing. I’ve made this exact prompt available for you to copy and paste from the description, but here’s the formula that works best:
"Use this image to create a picture of an action figure toy of a [type of person] in a blister package from head to toe with accessories including [accessories]. The package should read "[name]". The action figure package is in front of a plain white background."
Creating Your Custom AI Action Figure
Let’s look at how to use this prompt with a specific example. In my video, I demonstrated with:
“Use this image to create a picture of an action figure toy of a firefighter in a blister package from head to toe with accessories including a fire hose, a helmet, and a mask. The package should read “Moe the firefighter”. The action figure is in front of a plain white background.”
After writing your prompt, you’ll need to upload a reference image of yourself or the person you want to turn into an action figure. The AI will use this image to create a personalized action figure that resembles the subject.
Customizing Your AI Action Figure
What’s great about this process is how easily you can refine your action figure after the initial generation. In my demonstration, I wanted to make my figure look more like a professional firefighter, so I added:
“The firefighter action figure should have full firefighting gear on and not just casual clothes.”
You can similarly customize your action figure by specifying different clothing, accessories, or packaging details. The AI will generate a new version based on your additional instructions. This iterative process allows you to get exactly the look you want.
Animating Your Action Figure with Cling AI
Creating a static action figure image is cool, but making it come alive takes it to the next level! For this part, we’ll use Cling AI, which offers free credits for new users.
Setting Up Cling AI
Head over to Cling AI and sign up for a free account. Each new account receives 166 free credits, which is more than enough to create several animated videos. Navigate to the Video Cling 2.0 section from the left-hand menu to begin.
Download your action figure image from ChatGPT, then upload it to Cling AI in the Image to Video section. You’ll need to provide a prompt that describes how you want your action figure to move.
Animation Options
In my video, I demonstrated two different animations:
- Making the action figure step out of its packaging
- Making the action figure wave at the camera
For the first option, I simply uploaded the image and let Cling AI work its magic. The default settings often create an animation where the figure steps out of its packaging, which looks really impressive.
For the second option, I used the prompt: “make this action figure wave at the camera.” This specific instruction guides the AI to create exactly the movement you want.
Optimizing Your Cling AI Credits
If you want to conserve credits, you can use Cling 1.6 instead of 2.0, which only uses 20 credits per video instead of 100. The quality difference is minimal for most social media purposes, and it allows you to create more animations with your free credits.
After generating your animation, you can download the video directly from Cling AI and share it on your favorite social media platforms. The short, engaging animations are perfect for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter where brief, attention-grabbing content performs best.
Tips for Better Results
Through my experimentation, I’ve found several ways to improve your action figure creations:
- Use a clear, forward-facing photo with good lighting for the reference image
- Be very specific about character details and accessories in your prompt
- Create a plain white background for your figure to make the animation process smoother
- Experiment with different animation prompts in Cling AI to find what works best
- If the first animation doesn’t look right, simply regenerate it or try a slightly different prompt
Creative Applications
These AI action figures have countless fun and practical applications:
- Create personalized gifts by making action figures of friends and family
- Design custom promotional materials for your business or brand
- Create unique content for social media that stands out from typical posts
- Make animated avatars of yourself for online profiles
- Design themed action figures for special events or holidays
The versatility of this technique means you can create everything from professional-looking character designs to humorous parodies of yourself or friends.
Technical Requirements
One of the best aspects of this project is its minimal technical requirements:
- A free ChatGPT account with access to GPT-4o
- A reference image of the person you want to turn into an action figure
- A free Cling AI account (which provides 166 credits to start)
- Basic internet connection for uploading and downloading files
You don’t need any special software, design skills, or technical knowledge beyond following these simple steps. This accessibility is why these AI action figures have spread so quickly across social media.
Why AI Action Figures Are Going Viral
These custom action figures have captured the internet’s imagination for several reasons:
- They combine nostalgia (action figures) with cutting-edge AI technology
- The personalization aspect makes them uniquely shareable
- The animation element adds an unexpected “wow” factor
- They’re accessible to create, requiring no special skills
- They hit the sweet spot between humor and impressive technology
The novelty factor combined with personal relevance makes these animations particularly engaging on social media, where they often generate high interaction rates.
Creating these animated action figures is not only fun but also showcases how AI tools are becoming increasingly accessible to everyday users. What once would have required professional design software and animation skills can now be done in minutes with free, user-friendly AI tools.
