Claude Duet: Release Date, Access, Price, and vs Muse, Dots and Grok Bot
Claude Duet is Anthropic's new always-on agent you message like a person. Release date, how to join the waitlist, what it costs, and how it compares to Muse, Dots and Grok Bot.

Claude Duet is a new version of Claude that you message the way you'd message a person. Anthropic announced it on October 21, 2026, as a research preview. You tell it what you need, by text or voice message, and it does the work in the apps you've connected from its own computer in the cloud. It keeps going after you close the app, and it is designed to ask you before it sends, pays, signs or deletes anything.
Right now it is only for Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the US, through a waitlist. It costs nothing extra, but it uses your plan's usage limits.
That is the short answer. Below is everything else people are searching for on launch day: how to get in, what it costs, what it can't do yet, how it's different from regular Claude, and how it stacks up against Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots and xAI's Grok Bot.
Claude Duet in one minute#
What is it? An always-on personal agent built on Claude Opus 5.5. It runs on your Claude account, so your memory, skills and connectors are there from the first message.
When is the release date? Announced October 21, 2026. Invites go out in waves from a waitlist, so there is no single date when everyone gets it.
How do you get access? Pro or Max plan, US account, an iPhone or Android phone, and a waitlist spot with the same email as your Claude account.
Is it free? No extra charge during the preview, but not on the free plan. Its background work counts against your Pro or Max limits.
Is it better than Muse, Dots or Grok Bot? Nobody has run a fair head-to-head yet. Duet is the one aimed at professionals and small business owners, and the strictest about asking before it acts.
What Claude Duet actually does#
Anthropic describes Duet as Claude for "professionals and small business owners with more on their plates than they can track." In practice that means five things.
You message it like a person. Type a message or record a voice message. Your main thread stays in one place, so Duet picks up where you left off. You can open separate channels for different topics, and they all share the same memory.
It starts your day with a brief. Each morning it looks across your email and calendar, picks what most needs you, and can start the first steps, like drafting replies for you to review. During the day it sends updates and follows up on threads that have gone quiet.
It takes bigger jobs. Describe the outcome and it works out which apps to use and how much effort the job needs. Larger results come back as files you can edit, such as a research brief, a financial model, a slide deck or a dashboard. Finished work shows up in the Make tab.
It tracks its own tasks. The Tasks tab shows what Duet is working on and flags anything that needs your input. Only you can mark a task as done.
It can use websites without a connector. If a site has no connector, Duet uses its own browser in the cloud.
Anthropic's example requests give you a feel for the target user:
- "Clear out anything in my inbox that I don't need to read."
- "Check Stripe for unpaid invoices and draft reminder emails for me to approve."
- "Pull together a brief on this company before my 2 pm meeting."
- You message it
Type or send a voice message, like texting a person
- It plans the job
Picks the apps and how much effort the task needs
- It works in the cloud
Its own computer and browser, even with the app closed
- It asks first
Before it sends, pays, signs or deletes anything
Your approval
- You get the result
A reply in your thread, or a file in the Make tab
Claude Duet release date and how to get access#
Claude Duet was announced on October 21, 2026. It's a research preview with a waitlist, and Anthropic is letting people in gradually. Joining the waitlist does not guarantee a date.
You need all three of these:
- A Claude Pro or Max plan
- A Claude account in the US
- An invite from the waitlist
Here is how to join, step by step:
- Go to the Claude Duet product page and select Join the waitlist.
- Enter your name and email. If you already use Claude, use the email on your Claude account.
- Choose your plan and phone type (iPhone or Android). You can also say what you do and what you'd hand off first.
- Select Submit. You'll get an email when it's your turn.
- Open the invite on your phone and follow the setup steps. Use the Apple or Google account linked to that same email, because access is tied to it.
- Open Claude Duet and sign in with your Claude account. It can take a few minutes to show up after you accept.
Answer four questions. It checks you against Anthropic's published requirements.
- 1.Are you on a Claude Pro or Max plan?
- 2.Is your Claude account in the US?
- 3.Do you have an iPhone or an Android phone?
- 4.Will you join the waitlist with the same email as your Claude account?
Pick an answer for each question.
Why you might not have access yet#
- Invites go out in waves, so being on the list is not the same as being in.
- It's US only during the preview.
- Team and Enterprise plans aren't included yet. Anthropic says they're coming later.
- The waitlist email doesn't match your Claude account or the Apple or Google account on your phone. This is the one you can fix yourself.
One complaint on Hacker News got a lot of agreement: you have to type your details into a separate waitlist form instead of joining from inside Claude. If you're signed in to Claude on a different email than the one you'd naturally type, double-check before you submit.
Claude Duet price and usage limits#
During the research preview, Claude Duet is included with Pro and Max at no extra cost. VentureBeat lists those plans at $20 a month for Pro and from $100 a month for Max.
The catch is usage. Duet draws from the same five-hour and weekly limits as your normal Claude chats, at the same rate. Work it does in the background, like the morning brief and its check-ins, counts too. That's why it checks your accounts every few hours instead of constantly: Anthropic says nonstop checking would burn through your limits much faster.
To soften that, everyone admitted to the preview gets one full limit reset, covering both the five-hour and weekly limits. You can use it until November 30, 2026.
If you already hit your limits in regular Claude, expect to hit them sooner with Duet running. Max is the safer plan if you want to hand it real work every day.
What Claude Duet connects to#
Duet uses the connectors you've already set up in Claude, and Anthropic says it can use more than 6,000 connectors and plugins from the Claude Marketplace. The support article names Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, QuickBooks, HubSpot, Docusign and Calendly. You start every connection yourself and can disconnect any app at any time. It also supports plugins, such as a small business plugin, and can suggest ones that fit your work.
Three partner services are new:
- Stripe for checking unpaid invoices and drafting reminder emails for you to approve.
- Link, Stripe's wallet, for paying for purchases you approve.
- Shop Pay, Shopify's wallet, for the same thing at Shopify stores.
Each purchase uses a one-time card that only works for that purchase, and Duet asks before every one. Link and Shop Pay are only in Duet for now, and you connect them inside Duet, not in the connectors directory.
If you've been giving regular Claude access to your inbox already, like in my Zapier MCP inbox setup, Duet is the version that does it on its own schedule instead of only when you ask.
What Claude Duet can't do yet#
Anthropic is upfront about the limits during the preview:
- You can't pick a model. It runs on Claude Opus 5.5 and decides the effort level itself.
- You can't watch or take over its browser.
- It isn't real time. It checks your accounts at set intervals, so something urgent can land between checks.
- It can't see your local files or all your projects. It can read your work in Claude but can't change it.
- No phone calls or texts to other people. With your approval, it can send email from connected accounts.
- Some actions are off-limits even with approval, like trading securities, moving money between accounts or getting into someone else's account.
- Microsoft 365 isn't available yet, and some connectors, like Slack, work with limits.
It can also just get things wrong, like misreading a thread or misjudging what's urgent. Read the drafts before you approve them.
Is Claude Duet safe?#
Safety is the part Anthropic leans on hardest, and it's the main thing people are debating.
The core rule: Duet shows you what it's about to do and waits for your approval before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything. If you can't answer right away, it finishes the rest of the task and brings the approval back later. When it gives you a number or a summary, it tells you which email, file or spreadsheet it came from.
The bigger risk is prompt injection. Duet reads things other people wrote, like emails and web pages, and those can contain hidden instructions meant to trick it. Anthropic says Duet is built to treat what it reads as information, not orders, but also says plainly that no defense is perfect. That's the reason the approval step exists.
Passwords are handled separately. When a site asks for one, you type it into a separate form on your phone, and it goes straight to Duet's browser without passing through your chat.
My take: the approval gate is the right design, but it only works if you actually read what you approve. Treat the first few weeks like training a new assistant.
Claude Duet vs Claude: what's the difference?#
This is one of the most common questions, and fair enough, since Duet runs on your Claude account.
| Claude (chat app) | Claude Duet | |
|---|---|---|
| How you use it | Open a chat, ask, read the answer | Message it like a person, text or voice |
| When it works | While you're in the conversation | In the background, even with the app closed |
| Where it works | Your chat, plus tools you call | Its own cloud computer and browser |
| Proactive? | No | Morning brief, updates, follow-ups |
| Task tracking | No | Tasks tab and Make tab |
| Model | You choose | Opus 5.5 only |
| Plans | Free, Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise | Pro and Max, US, waitlist |
| Usage | Your plan limits | Same limits, plus background work |
Duet also searches your past Claude chats (outside of projects) for context, so you don't have to repeat yourself. It uses the same Search and reference chats setting as Claude, so turning that off in Settings, then Memory, stops it.
If you'd rather run an always-on agent without touching your Claude limits, the open-source route still exists. I run one in Hermes Agent, hosted 24/7 without a VPS.
Claude Duet vs Meta Muse vs OpenAI Dots vs Grok Bot#
Duet is the fourth always-on agent from a big AI company in about ten weeks. That's why "claude duet vs" is one of the first things people type.

Claude Duet vs Meta Muse#
Muse is the closest match and the one people compare most ("is claude duet like muse" shows up in Google's suggestions). Both run on an isolated cloud computer, and both pay through Stripe Link.
The big difference is who they're for. TechCrunch reports that Muse is free to start, with Power at $20 a month and Maximum at $100, and that it needs a payment card even on the free tier. It's on the web, iOS, Android and WhatsApp. Meta runs a separate "Sentinel" agent on the same machine to watch it.
Duet has no free tier and is aimed at work: invoices, inboxes, briefs, decks. If you want a household helper on WhatsApp, Muse fits better. If your day lives in Gmail, Slack and Stripe, Duet is the better fit.
Claude Duet vs OpenAI Dots#
Dots launched at OpenAI's DevDay on September 29, running on GPT-6 Astra. Per TechCrunch, it's for ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets, and you launch it from ChatGPT or Codex. You can run several "dots" as a team, each with its own cloud computer.
Two practical differences. Dots has a business route today, while Duet skips Team and Enterprise for now. And Dots lives inside ChatGPT and Codex, while Duet is its own app. If you're already paying for ChatGPT Pro, try Dots first. If you're on Claude, Duet costs you nothing extra to try.
Claude Duet vs Grok Bot#
Grok Bot from xAI came first, as an early beta in August for SuperGrok Heavy and some Cursor subscribers, on desktop and iOS. Coverage disagrees on its price, and reports also disagree on whether each bot gets its own cloud computer. I couldn't confirm either from xAI directly, so treat any Grok Bot price you see with care.
It's the most developer-flavored of the four. If you're not already in the Grok or Cursor world, it's the hardest one to get into.
Which should you pick?#
The honest answer: the one attached to the account you already pay for. All four are previews, none has published independent benchmarks, and each one works best with its own ecosystem. VentureBeat made the same point: Anthropic hasn't published benchmarks or per-task cost estimates for Duet, and things like human approval and a cloud computer aren't unique to it.
Where Duet stands out on paper is its approval rules and how it works with business tools: Stripe invoices, QuickBooks, HubSpot, Docusign. If that sounds like your week, get on the waitlist.
What people are saying about Claude Duet#
The press reaction on launch day was mostly neutral to positive, with most outlets framing Duet as Anthropic's answer to Muse and Dots. MacRumors, 9to5Google and VentureBeat all covered it. Europe-focused Trending Topics noted that Europe is left out.
The main Hacker News thread passed 300 comments. The themes that kept coming up:
- "What would I even use it for?" Several people said they can't picture handing an always-on agent their accounts, or don't trust one yet.
- Usage limits. Some people dislike that background work eats into the same limits as chat.
- Lock-in. Some asked why it's a separate app instead of part of Claude, and why it's tied to one model family.
- Privacy and passwords. Giving an agent access to a password manager drew the sharpest criticism in the thread.
- Waitlist friction. Retyping your details into a form instead of joining from inside Claude.
- A frontier model as a personal assistant. The fans liked exactly that: Opus 5.5 behind a personal assistant, not a smaller model.
On MacRumors, commenters talked about agent fatigue, and a few pointed out that the article left out Grok Bot. I couldn't load reactions on X or find solid Reddit threads yet, so take this as the launch-day mood, not the final verdict.

This post answers each of those: access and the waitlist, the release date, what it is, the price, and the comparisons with Grok Bot, Dots and Muse. "Claude duet vs cowork" and "vs instinct" also showed up. Cowork is Anthropic's own desktop agent, which works on files on your computer. Instinct is a separate errand-running agent.
How to use Claude Duet effectively#
Once you're in, a few habits make the difference between a helpful assistant and a noisy one. These come from how Anthropic says Duet works.
- Start with email and calendar. The morning brief works from those two, so connect them first. Add Stripe, QuickBooks, HubSpot or Slack once you trust the drafts.
- Say where to stop. "Draft the replies, don't send them" or "find three options, don't book" tells Duet exactly where the approval point is.
- Give it the whole picture in one message. Duet decides how much effort a job needs from what you tell it. Who it's for, the deadline, what good looks like and what to avoid gets you a better first result than a one-liner.
- Talk your long instructions instead of typing them. Duet takes voice messages on your phone. On a Mac, use Rambleproof, a free push-to-talk dictation app, to speak a detailed brief into Claude, Gmail, Slack or the other apps you type in and get clean text back.
- Use channels for big topics. Keep your main thread for quick asks and open a channel per project. Every channel shares the same memory.
- Read every approval and check the source. Duet tells you which email, file or spreadsheet a number came from. Open it before you approve anything that sends, pays, signs or deletes.
- Watch your usage. Background work counts against your limits. Use your one-time limit reset before November 30, 2026, ideally on a big job.
- Tell it when it gets something wrong. You can report problems by just telling Duet in plain words what happened, and it passes the report to Anthropic.
Talk to Claude everywhere, not just on your phone#
The best idea in Duet is the simplest one: you don't type to it, you talk to it. Record a voice message, say what you want however it comes out, and it figures out the rest.
That's already how I work on my Mac, in the apps I type in, not just one. I talk my prompts into Claude, Claude Code, Gmail and Slack with Rambleproof, the dictation app I built. Press a key, ramble, press it again, and clean text appears where your cursor is. It cleans up the ums, false starts and "wait, actually" moments.
Rambleproof · free for Mac
Talk to Claude on your Mac, not just your phone.
Duet takes voice messages on your phone. Rambleproof gives you the same thing everywhere else: press a key, ramble, press it again, and clean text lands at your cursor in Claude, Gmail or Slack.
Try Rambleproof freeUnlimited local dictation free, plus 15,000 AI-cleaned words a week. Apple silicon, macOS 15 or later.

If you want to compare it with other options first, I reviewed the main alternative in my Wispr Flow review, and I showed how I built an early version in build your own dictation app with Claude Code and Gladia.
Should you join the Claude Duet waitlist?#
Join now if you're on Pro or Max in the US and your day is email, calendar, invoices and follow-ups. The morning brief alone could be worth it, and there's no extra cost.
Wait if you already run into your usage limits, you're not comfortable connecting your inbox and payment accounts to an agent, or you need Microsoft 365.
You can't join yet if you're outside the US, on the free plan, or on Team or Enterprise.
Whatever you decide, check the email before you hit submit. It's the most common reason people get stuck.
Claude Duet FAQ#
What is Claude Duet?
Claude Duet is a research preview from Anthropic: a version of Claude you message like a person, by text or voice message. It works in the apps you've connected from its own computer in the cloud, sends you a morning brief, keeps working after you close the app, and asks before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything.
When was Claude Duet released?
Anthropic announced Claude Duet on October 21, 2026, as a research preview. Access opens in waves through a waitlist, so there is no single release date for everyone.
How do I get access to Claude Duet?
You need a Claude Pro or Max plan, a US Claude account and an iPhone or Android phone. Join the waitlist on the Claude Duet product page with the same email as your Claude account. When it's your turn, open the invite email on your phone, install the app and sign in with your Claude account.
Is Claude Duet free?
There is no extra charge during the research preview, but it is not available on the free plan. It is included with Pro and Max and uses your plan's usage limits, including background work like the morning brief. New users get one full limit reset, usable until November 30, 2026.
Is Claude Duet available outside the US?
Not yet. The research preview is for US accounts only, and Anthropic has not given a date for other countries.
What is the difference between Claude and Claude Duet?
Claude is the chat app: you ask, it answers, and it works while you are in the conversation. Claude Duet uses the same account, memory, skills and connectors, but it runs on its own cloud computer, checks your accounts every few hours, sends you a morning brief, tracks tasks and keeps working after you close the app.
Is Claude Duet better than Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots or Grok Bot?
Nobody has published a head-to-head test yet. Duet is built for professionals and small business owners and runs on Claude Opus 5.5. Muse is consumer-focused with a free tier. Dots runs on GPT-6 Astra inside ChatGPT for Pro and Business Premium users. Grok Bot is an early beta for SuperGrok Heavy and some Cursor plans. Pick the one that fits the plan and apps you already use.
How do I use Claude Duet effectively?
Connect your email and calendar first, say exactly where Duet should stop (for example: draft the replies, don't send them), and give the full context in one message. Duet accepts voice messages on your phone; on a Mac, a free dictation app like Rambleproof lets you speak long, detailed instructions into Claude, Gmail or Slack. Read every approval, check the source Duet cites, and keep an eye on your usage limits, since background work counts too.
Which model does Claude Duet use?
Claude Opus 5.5. You can't choose a different model during the preview. Duet decides how much effort each job needs.
